Falco, by Arturo Perez-Reverte
There was Alatriste. There is now Falco. The new recurring character of Perez-Reverte. A Francoist secret service agent during the Spanish Civil War. Yes, yes, Francoist. Not republican, not “Hemmingwayian”, not a hero of pure revolutionary romanticism. A hero like Perez-Reverte loves them, neither enfeoffed, mystical nor fanatical. A hero placed there by circumstances and who believes above all in himself. A woman of course, she who… but shush, you have to read the novel. Yes, you have to read it, let yourself be caught up in its action, its twists and turns, its characters, its atmosphere of civil war with all that it implies. A very, very good historical spy novel.
The second opus, Eva, has just been released. It undoubtedly confirms that a new excellent series has been born. The third part has already been published in Spanish.
